Former Eastern and Portland Trail Blazer center Kevin Duckworth died Monday evening in Gleneden Beach, Ore., at the age of 44. Duckworth was in Gleneden Beach to host a free basketball clinic sponsored by the Trail Blazers when he died in the small, coastal town on the Pacific.

A pitcher on the Ball State University baseball team was suspended after a police officer would not "give him a break."

According to the Ball State University police, Seth Lawrence Hobbs, 20, of Marseilles, Ill., was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of public intoxication and minor in possession of alcohol.

In an effort to snuff out second-hand smoke, Miami University enacted its on-campus smoking ban Aug. 1.

Miami's Board of Trustees originally approved the smoking ban proposal Sept. 14, 2007, with the 2008-09 school year the first to see the change.

With the smoking ban in effect just shy of a month, Miami President David Hodge said he has not heard anything negative thus far.
