On January 27, Jeff Roades, the regional recruiter for the Peace Corps, gave a presentation about the value of Peace Corps service and the application process.
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. The need for blood transfusions continues to increase, and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed daily. Four million Americans would die each year without a blood transfusion, and the only way to acquire this blood is through the generous donations of healthy individuals worldwide.
My senior year so far has been full of amazing opportunities. One of those opportunities is my third internship at The Bridges Coalition. The Bridges Coalition is a broad-based private, non-profit organization. It is founded by business and economic development leaders in Louisville and Southern Indiana with the goal of completing the Ohio River Bridges Project as quickly and as cost effectively as possible.
Bellarmine's newest state-of-the-art Mac Lab is up and running, fully operational and ready for use. Several digital art classes, such as Advanced Photography and Color Imaging, already utilize the space twice a week.
As everyone is well aware, the Smoking Ban on campus is just finishing up its inaugural month. How is the ban doing? Has it been effective in ending smoking on campus?
For the past few years, the women of Bellarmine University have banded together to perform Eve Ensler's play "The Vagina Monologues." The tradition will be continuing this year. Director Samantha Twyman, a Bellarmine senior, and assistant director Lauren Johnson, a junior, will be leading the actresses through three performances on March 12th and 13th. This is a departure from the traditional performance time of February in order to coincide with the Office of Multicultural Affairs Women's History Month events.
As of right now, I can't even remember when I first heard about TOMS Shoes. But whenever I did, I fell in love with them instantly. TOMS Shoes is a company that's sole purpose is to give back. With every pair of shoes you purchase, TOMS Shoes will give a pair to a child in need. Their mission is called One for One, and it is wildly successful.

Dr. Adam Renner, head of the program for two years, cites the program as a cross-disciplinary approach to developing skills and enhancing the moral and ethical standards of students with the foundation of Catholic social teaching.
Len Coughlin, a Bellarmine student working on his doctorate in physical therapy, was recently awarded with the Big Brother of the Year award by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.
By Rachel Candella Bellarmine University has a new club to add to the list. Danielle White and Bryanna Tidmarsh, both junior English majors, have started a Creative Writing club. The group held its first meeting Jan. 28 during free period. White said, "Our goal is to eventually become a full-fledged RSO, but at the moment we are still in the planning stages.
