Bellarmine Knight's Field Hockey is picking up their play, winning three games in the past week alone. Bellarmine Knight's Field Hockey team won 4-1 against Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania Sept. 29. Bellarmine's first goal was earned by Michelle Esterle assisted by Jourdan Hubbach. Later Hannah McNally slipped one past the Slippery Rock defense and later both Esterle and McNally assisted two other teammates, Megan Brake and Tumaini Malenga. Goalie Kristina Thompson blocked four shots, but eventually Slippery Rock was able to get one past her.

Knights field hockey came out on top again Sept. 22 against NCAA Division I St. Francis taking the game with a 3-0 victory. Goals were scored by junior Sloane Hubbach, junior Sarah Roney, and senior Michelle Esterle. This game earned goalie Kristina Thompson her fourth shut-out of the season.

The Knights also won against Centre College Colonels Sept. 19, with a 3-0 victory. Tumaini Malenga, Reghann Covert, and Megan Brake all managed to slip goals past the Colonel goalie. This win was a big victory for the team, who fell to Centre last year in a close home game.

One of the team's best games this season actually came out as a loss. The Lady Knights almost pulled off one of the largest upsets of the season when they they were tied with 12-time national champions Bloomsburg with five minutes remaining. A last minute score gave the No. 1 team the win, but it was still a monumental game for Bellarmine.

Bellarmine's Field Hockey team plays their first game at home against Catawba later this week, Friday October 6, 2006.
