While 24-hour restaurants are becoming the craze around the country, their presence around Bellarmine's campus is scarce.
Café 360 helps local students fight hunger attacks at all hours with hot, home-like food and a chill environment to relax. Its popularity has skyrocketed with the rise of hookahs on the social radar. Café 360's 24-hour restaurant, countless hookah flavors, and laid-back atmosphere have crazed Bellarmine students to "keep Louisville weird."
The eclectic nature of the Highlands has showed itself in the success of a local 24-hour café and hookah bar. Café 360 was founded in April of 2005 by Sanjay Taxak.
Originally from India, Taxak said that he got the idea for a hookah bar from places he had visited in London.
"Well, I went to hookah bars in London, and there were none in Kentucky, so I opened one," Sanjay said.
"Money is a huge deal when you're a young adult or teenager. Having a place like this, open 24-hours a day not only gives young people a place to hang out, but it also doesn't break their bank account for good food," he said.
"Good" is an understatement according to some regulars at the restaurant. "Try the hot brown," one voice shouted from the back of the café.
Café 360 offers a number of items on their menu, with nothing more than $10. Customers can order anything from chicken fingers and fries to a Chinese omelet, and the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner anytime of day.
"There are so many good things," Taxak said. "But one of my personal favorites has to be the appetizer, Kathi Rolls."
Kathi Rolls are thin bread wrapped with marinated chicken or homemade cheese. Taxak emphasized the homemade aspect of his café.
"The prices are reasonable, but everything is homemade," he said. "Everything is fresh; there are no cans in my kitchen. When something is canned, it always tastes the same. When you make it homemade, it always tastes different."
