The Bellarmine Counseling Center and the Campus Ministry and Service Office took little time to respond to the on-campus tragedy last week. Both reminded the Bellarmine community of their presence and offered immediate services, encouraging students to continue to use these resources to help them get through difficulties they are now facing.

"Whenever there's a death, there's a need for closure, and we still need that," said Melanie Prejean-Sullivan, director of Campus Ministry and Service. "My office is committed to (be there for) anyone's faith."

Campus ministries made their regular Wednesday night service special in light of the incident (see related article). The Our Lady of the Woods Chapel was opened again on Thursday night for both informal and formal prayer. In addition, prayer and counseling were offered in the new prayer and meditation room on Friday. This resource, located in Anniversary Hall, was officially opened Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Sullivan emphasized that the Campus Ministry and Service Office is open to people of all faiths, not only Catholics and Christians. She said people of many different faith bases work in their office.

"Our number one commitment is not to judge anyone," she said, adding that this includes atheists and agnostics. "Our goal is not to change people, it's to help."

The Campus Ministry and Service Office is located in Horrigan 113 and is collecting notes, letters and cards of prayer and support for members of our community who are suffering away from campus due to the events.
