Christmas break will be here soon! The holiday season is a time of welcome, joy and lights, of family dinner and cookies. The end of the semester also means that many international students from Bellarmine are going back home, and for 9 of them, will continue somewhere else other than in Louisville. The campus is going to lose many precious students and friends who have colored the last four months with international flavor.

Brandt McCool coached the International student flag football team and roommate to Kenny Chan, an exchange student from Hong Kong.

"Kenny is a really great roommate. He is a kind hearted individual who is constantly looking out for the interests of others over himself. He has a great sense of humor. I know that he will always, even after I have had the worst day on record, make me laugh. He will be missed," McCool said.

McCool spent a lot of hours practicing with the international students practicing flag football. He particularly remembers seeing Rowan Jennion, from Australia, in action. "Rowan is a really great person. He will always look out and be your friend even though sometimes he might not show it. He works notoriously hard at whatever he does. During flag football season I remember trying to teach the people how to throw a football and Rowan just throwing a 50-Yard spiral or chucking it. He has a great sense of humor that a lot of people in today's world just seem to lack."

McCool also got to know some of the students off the football field at other events. "Melanie is a really driven person. I feel though she has grown on me and become almost like a sister. She is very responsible and no matter what she always will make sure to get the work that she has taken on done. My greatest memory of her will have to be going to a Reds game and just seeing how much she was in amazement at the great American game of baseball."

Chan, McCool's roommate, also reflected on his stay in the United States. "After staying in Bellarmine for one semester, the friendly people here impressed me a lot. They always offer you a help ! It is a big difference from the people in Hong Kong who are cooler and are too busy to stop to help you."

Laurie Martin is an exchange student from France who will stay at Bellarmine for the remainder of the year. "Studying abroad is not always easy because you don't have your family and friends. When I met the group of internationals students, I knew they would understand me, for example when you feel kind of homesick. And it's really fun to be all together because we all have our personalities and we have a lot of things to share. Obviously, because half the group is leaving next semester it will be really different. But next year, I will make a big world trip to see all of them!"
