Sam Daley-Harris, the founder of the international nonprofit organization RESULTS spoke at Bellarmine this past Tuesday Nov. 27.
RESULTS is an organization that is deeply committed to "creating public and political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty." Daley-Harris is a proud supporter of the micro-credit lending programs inspired by Mohammad Yunas' Grameen Bank, and his involvement in this the Micro-credit Summit Campaign is just one of the ways RESULTS combats poverty and hunger.
"My lifetime of achievement has been spent working with the grassroots and staff of RESULTS, RESULTS Educational Fund, and the Microcredit Summit Campaign," Daley-Harris said.
Daley-Harris spoke Nov. 27 in Frazier Hall at 1:40, informing the Bellarmine community and public about micro-credit programs and his work with the Micro-credit Summit Campaign. He also held an interactive workshop where he discussed the RESULTS organization and its work aiding the development of civilian activists. Daley-Harris taught those in attendance effective advocacy methods that are used to aid the world's poorest people.
Daley-Harris' RESULTS organization has made great strides over the past 30 years. RESULTS and its partner organizations have increased the level of government and international organization aid offered to the fight against poverty and hunger.
Every year, Bellarmine University offers several alternative spring break options for those who wish to spend their breaks involved in organized community service. This March, 10 students are getting involved in the fight against poverty and world hunger by way of the micro-credit financial programs as they journey to Belize with Rotoract for break.
Daley-Harris just recently received the Susan M. Davis Lifetime Achievement Award for his work from the Grameen Foundation.
"Sam is a passionate advocate for social justice, and we are indebted to him for his unwavering commitment to educating political leaders and the general public about the profound impact microfinance has on the lives of those suffering the worst affects of hunger and poverty," said Alex Counts, president of Grameen Foundation.
He is an accomplished author and essayist, writing on issues of poverty, government, and world hunger. He is the author of the book Reclaiming Our Democracy: Healing the Break between People and Government, the essay "Imagine: A Nation that Cares for Itself, and for All Humanity," and is also the editor of Pathways Out of Poverty: Innovations in Microfinance for the Poorest Families.
