QEP is part of the requirements for Bellarmine's reaffirmation of accreditation process with the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SACS is the regional accrediting agency for all colleges & universities in the southeast, and each school goes through re-accreditation every 10 years.

"The QEP is a plan to transform student learning over five years," says Beth Davis, the Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and QEP Project Manager. The on-site review takes place March 25-27, and the reviewers, made up of administrators from schools like Bellarmine around the region, will review Bellarmine's QEP and make recommendations on it.

Bellarmine's QEP is entitled "Liberal Education in an International Context: Preparing Students for a Globally Competitive World," and the tag line for QEP awareness is "Bellarmine Goes Global." QEP is focused on enhancing the student experience by making internationalization a main priority.

QEP goals as of now are to enhance international curricular and co-curricular offerings and to increase student and faculty participation in international experiences. As a result of QEP, students will be able to compare and contrast similarities and differences among people, religions, customs, arts, and cultures of the world, demonstrate basic communication skills in a foreign language and show an improved understanding of geography.

There will be an awareness week on March 10-14, which includes activities such as drawings for QEP t-shirts, Australia Day on Thursday the 13th with Campion College, a BU partner university, and an international food festival co-sponsored with the International Club on Thursday, March 13th at 11:00. There will be signs posted and giveaways to raise awareness about the QEP plan.

One student said, "I agree with QEP to diversify. It's something you have to welcome in the real world." Davis also states "This Quality Enhancement Plan is a great opportunity to focus on student learning in a global context and will be an exciting and transformative undertaking for the Bellarmine community over the next five years."
