The success that was Hillside 2008 could go down in Bellarmine history. The headlining act, Sara Bareilles, has a current radio hit, the tickets sold out and it didn't even rain. The event had an incredible turnout and the audience seemed to really enjoy the show.

Bellarmine Activities Council's (BAC) annual spring event was held Friday, April 18 in the SuRF Center parking lot. The sell-out show featured three artists: Raining Jane, Rachel Yamagata and Sara Bareilles.

The concert started at 6:30 p.m. with California-based Raining Jane. The diverse sound and energy the band brought to the stage was a surprising success to those in the audience. Many students had not heard of the band before, but all were very impressed with their music and really enjoyed the show they put on.

"I think they were a strong opening show," sophomore Meredith McCann said. "The performance was very high energy, and I think the crowd really fed off of that."

Second to come on stage was artist Rachael Yamagata. Though a far lower key show than the previous, Yamagata put on an excellent show that exhibited her beautiful lyrics and voice.

After the concert was over, Yamagata was kind enough to give an interview where she spoke about her creative process and what it is like to be a successful musician. "Some days it will be really cool and people will seem really excited to see me, and then others I get some one asking if that's my guitar and if I play, or telling me to keep on trying and that I'll make it big some day. It's a struggle, but I love it," Yamagata said.

Yamagata will be releasing a new album in late July and going on a headlining tour possibly in the late summer. She also said was touched by the kindness and enthusiasm to her visit to Bellarmine and really enjoyed her time here. The official recorded interview will be aired on BU Radio soon.
