The Bellarmine women's soccer team entered the postseason with some momentum coming in. But it didn't follow the Knights during their match, and BU ended their season with a 3-2 loss to Northern Kentucky in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

The Knights came in as the underdogs, being the 7th seed facing off against the 2nd-seeded Norse. And the odds didn't stop stacking against them there. NKU got a quick lead, with Lauren Franzen putting the Norse up 1-0 after only 3:30 into the match. Brandi Doss then added another goal to the tally to put Bellarmine down 2-0 going into halftime.

But it didn't stop there. The Norse came out hot and scored yet another goal out of the gates, taking a commanding 3-0 lead that surely should have demoralized the Knights.

Instead, Bellarmine fought back. They faced up to the adversity and stormed back with two goals in the 76th and 78th minutes. BU's Lauren Triplett scored the first goal, rebounding a missed shot by Stephanie Wilson into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Amanda Moore stroked a goal off of a pass by Brittany Nakatani to suddenly bring Bellarmine into the game, down 3-2.

But there wasn't enough time for the comeback to be completed. NKU's defense held for the final twelve minutes, and Bellarmine's season ended at the end of the match.

Despite the setback, the girls enjoyed a successful season and gave it their all in their final match. The Knights exit the GLVC tournament and their 2008 season with an 11-6-2 record overall.
