The Bellarmine University lacrosse team improved its record to 6-2 on the season by defeating their hosts, Presbyterian College, 14-9.

Led by senior Ray Finnegan, Jr., who scored four goals, the Knights were able to take command of the game early.

Bellarmine ran out to an early 4-1 lead and never were seriously threatened the rest of the game. The Blue Hose cut the lead to two at 5-3 in the second quarter, but Bellarmine came back to establish a 7-3 halftime advantage.

The Knights pushed the lead to 9-4 on a Chase Williams goal at the 10:25 mark of the third quarter. Although Presbyterian rallied to close to within three, Bellarmine pulled away to win by five.

For the game, Bellarmine outshot their opponents 37 to 21. Blue Hose goalie Jon Athens recorded 14 saves on the day while Bellarmine goalie Scott Bowles had eight saves in the first three quarters, and David Haas picked up two saves in the fourth.

Bellarmine's next lacrosse action will be Wednesday, March 25 as the Knights travel to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame in their Great Western Lacrosse League opener. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
