Falcons fly by Knights

The Air Force lacrosse team used a strong second half to knock off Bellarmine University, 12-7, Saturday afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. With the victory, the Falcons improve to 4-6 overall, 2-1 in the Great Western Lacrosse League, while the Knights fall to 6-6 overall, 0-4 in the league.
For nearly seven minutes the game was scoreless until Air Force senior K.J. Landgraf gave the Falcons' a quick jump start, tallying three goals, including a pair of man-up scores, within a span of three minutes.
Bellarmine finally got on the board at the 4:17 mark of the opening period when Chase Williams got free for an assisted goal to make it 3-1.
The Falcons went up by a count of 5-1 early in the second period, but Bellarmine battled back with four unanswered goals to tie the score 5-5 at halftime.
Air Force registered the first two goals of the third period to take a 7-5 lead at the 9:50 mark. Bellarmine's Jarrett Davis scored his third goal of the game to cut the lead to 7-6 with a little over six and a half minutes remaining in the third.
The Falcons, however, put the game away with five consecutive goals. A late goal by the Knights' Sean Doyle made the final margin 12-7.
Although Bellarmine held the edge on face-offs winning 14 of 23, the Falcons outshot the Knights 42-36. Meanwhile, Air Force's starting goalkeeper, Brian Wilson, matched a career-high with 12 saves, while allowing just six goals.
Bellarmine goes on the road to face Bryant next Saturday, before returning to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on April 25 when they take on GWLL foe Quinnipiac. Faceoff is at 1 p.m.
