The Bellarmine University men's and women's tennis teams played against Missouri-St. Louis this past weekend, and both found varied results of success. While the women extended their winning streak to five matches in a row, the men lost their match against the Tritons.

The women's team found plenty of good signs to take away from their play. The defeated Missouri-St. Louis 6-3. Following a recently developed trend, the Knights started ahead 2-1 because of the excellent play of their numbers one and two doubles teams. Rebecca Porter and Emily Roebker defeated UMSL's Pujitha Bandi and Stephanie Thompson by a score of 8-3. Elizabeth Bohnert and Sarah Roebker paired up to take out Altanzul Gombo and Leticia Garcia 8-1.

After winning two doubles matches by such a wide margin, it was paramount that the Knights continue to build on their momentum. As it turns out, they did just that as the Knights built upon their lead by winning four of the six singles matches, resulting in the final 6-3 margin. Porter topped Bandi 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets. Sarah Roebker outlasted Thompson 7-6 (10-3), 6-3. Bohnert defeated Gombo 6-1, 7-5. And Emily Roebker won easily in her match against Garcia, 6-1, 6-1.

The Bellarmine women's tennis team now have a record of 12-5 (7-2 GLVC), which clinched a spot in the GLVC tournament. Missouri-St. Louis saw their record slip to 5-8 (3-2 GLVC).

On the other side of the court, the Bellarmine men's tennis team didn't fare as well in their match against the Tritons.

BU fell all three doubles matches to start the day in a 3-0 hole. Although they did win a few singles matches to make it competitive, the Knights were still unable to make much headway in the singles competition as they lost four out of the six matches.

One bright spot on the team was Satthi Reddy. He defeated Tim Bryant 7-6, 6-4 at the five spot, while Todd Atcher downed Maor Grinas 6-3, 6-0 at the number six singles.

But the one through four spots all lost their matches, unable to lift the Knights to victory on the day.

Although they lost, and their record sits at 6-8 (4-3 GLVC), the Knights still clinched a berth in the GLVC tournament. Meanwhile the Tritons improved to 3-10 on the season (2-5 GLVC). The Bellarmine men's tennis team will play again on Tuesday, April 13, when they go on the road to play Indiana University Southeast.

Both the men's and the women's squads will be in action at home on Friday, April 17, as the University of Indianapolis comes to the SuRF Center for a match against our Knights.
