BellarM.E.N. (Men of Education and Networking) is a relatively new RSO on campus. It focuses on supporting its members by helping develop personal growth and academic achievement that will provide a foundation for success. This focus is achieved through the mentoring of each other, local youth, through community involvement and as mantes with men of the local professional community.
Although fairly new, the group currently holds 18 members, under the direction of Senior Zach Pittman as President. As of September 28th, 2009, Ryan Simpson, the new director of multicultural affairs and international student counselor, has stepped forward as BellarM.E.N.'s advisor to aide in their effort toward achieving success through concentrating on the specific interests and concerns of male students at Bellarmine University.
BellarM.E.N. is open to all male students attending Bellarmine University. One great aspect of the organization is the encouragement of diverse members, along with bringing togetherness among the men around campus. The male students at Bellarmine only represent 30% of the campus population, making them a clear minority. This group addresses personal, cultural, and social aspects of development with other male students on campus, while creating an opportunity to enjoy social outings and planned community and campus events together.
One of the projects they will be focusing on during the week of October 26th - 31st, 2009 is volunteering at Brooklawn Child and Family Services, which is also a home for troubled boys. "Volunteering at Brooklawn will be a great opportunity for the BellarM.E.N. to get involved in the Louisville community and to help the young men at Brooklawn grow into vibrant adults," said Pittman, "Members of BellarM.E.N. will learn just as much from the boys at Brooklawn as they will learn from us. Plus we will have a lot of fun in the process!"
BellarM.E.N. will be selling Krispy Kreme Donuts in the Café during the month of October to help raise money for their future endeavors. They'd love to have your support, so please stop by and buy some donuts!
If you are interested in joining BellarM.E.N. or going with them to volunteer at Brooklawn, please contact Zach Pittman at Zpittman01@Bellarmine.edu . BellarM.E.N. is a fast growing RSO on campus. They meet every other Wednesday night. The next meeting will take place on next Wednesday, October 28th, at 8pm in the Fireplace room. Stop by to learn more and get involved!
