In the summer of 2010, explore life through a different culture. Bellarmine's Study Abroad department is currently offering Interdisciplinary (IDC) 301 summer abroad programs, which fulfills the IDC requirement for the 301 level while studying abroad.

During the summer 2010 abroad programs, students can take a class or two from Bellarmine professors with 10 different locations to choose from with a wide variety of subjects offered from every major.

Students can choose from places like Italy, Australia, England and many more to fly away to and become educated while having fun. These classes provide a short-term study abroad experience in a unique setting.

For example, if students who are interested in public speaking or communication who would like to get a hands-on experience, then Professor Needham's England trip "Speak Your Mind" is available.

However, according to the Study Abroad Coordinator, Hannah Holler Egea, said that for students who have already completed the IDC 301 requirement can either count the 3 credit hours towards something that in their major or as an elective. These unique options can give students who would like to study abroad more options on where to travel.

Also, Holler Egea said that students who are planning to study aboard can choose between two main programs, the Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS) and the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA).

Holler-Egea said that the KIIS programs "concentrates more on non-English speaking destinations, such as France, whereas the CCSA programs plan to send students to English-speaking regions, such as Ireland or England.

The KIIS program is also much smaller, having about 30-40 students verses the CCSA program that has between 300-400 students.

"Whichever program and destination students choose, they will be traveling with a group of people," Holler-Egea added. She advises that for students who are not ready to travel alone, the summer abroad programs are good opportunities.
