The expectations just keep on rising for Bellarmine's men's basketball team. After being named the nation's top-ranked NCAA Division II team by Sporting News earlier this month, the Knights were given similar praise from Basketball Times, being named the nation's top DII team.
The Knights set a school record with 26 wins a year ago, and since they return four of their five starters as well as nine of their top ten scorers from last season, the Knights once again seem primed for success.
Braydon Hobbs was given individual preseason recognition, being named in Basketball Times' list of Top 25 All America players. The 6-5 sophomore guard averaged 12.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game en route to being to the Division II All-Freshman Team last year.
BYU-Hawaii is ranked No. 2, followed by Central Missouri, Valdosta State, and Bentley round out the top 5. Indiana (Pa.) is ranked sixth. The top 10 is rounded out by Grand Valley State, Humboldt State, Cal Poly Pomona, and St. Cloud State. The defending national champion Findley Oilers, who defeated the Knights in last year's tournament in double overtime, are ranked 11th. The only other GLVC team to crack Basketball Times' preseason top-25 rankings is Northern Kentucky in the 17th spot.
