On Friday, November 13, the night was definitely not unlucky for the opening of the Bellarmine Alumni Art Show.
The Alumni Art Show, which happens every two years, was held in the McGrath Gallery on Bellarmine's Campus.
It was an elegant event with a huge crowd, which consisted of students, faculty, alumni, and many others.
When one entered the room, they were not only welcomed to a huge group of people, but much art as well. People were able to see between 40-50 pieces of art from paintings, sketches, sculptures, and so on. There was something for everyone to enjoy.
As the name of the art show implies, all of the art was done by Bellarmine alumni. The alumni ranged from people who graduated from the 1970s to those who had just graduated last year.
Many of the paintings are bright and colorful, some even had sparkles.
One painting, which was called Ying Yang Hang Up by 1977 graduate Kerry Malloy, was of a hanger with a wood floor background. It was extremely simple, yet detailed. Many of the people looking at it said that they could just stare at it all day.
Another piece of art, that was neither a painting nor a sculpture but mixed media, was called Yardsale Jewelry by a 1985 graduate Betty Hirsch. It was a box of yard sale jewelry carefully placed onto a map. It is interesting since jewelry is art in a sense.
And of course, there were a few paintings and sketches of horses because of the derby.
Overall, the Alumni Art Show was a successful event with much diversity made by talented people. The Alumni's artwork will be in the McGrath Gallery until December 11, 2009. Check it out!
