As of right now, I can't even remember when I first heard about TOMS Shoes. But whenever I did, I fell in love with them instantly. TOMS Shoes is a company that's sole purpose is to give back. With every pair of shoes you purchase, TOMS Shoes will give a pair to a child in need. Their mission is called One for One, and it is wildly successful.

Over the summer I applied to be a campus representative, hoping I could garner interest on Bellarmine's campus. I received the position for the Fall semester and am continuing into the Spring. My job is pretty easy, as my main duties are to wear my TOMS shoes (I have the burlap ones, in case you were curious), tell people what TOMS Shoes does and create events to raise awareness.

Last semester I was only able to hold one event, but this semester I plan on doing a whole lot more. There's a worldwide event occurring in April called "One Day Without Shoes" and my goal is to get the whole campus involved and participating. Yeah, it's kind of lofty and almost impossible, but I'd like to try. Even half would be nice.

Since their creation, TOMS has given over 400,000 pairs of shoes to children in need all over the world, and while I'm a campus representative I'd love for Bellarmine students, faculty and staff to contribute to that growing number. I currently have a few events in the planning stages and hope to have my first one for the semester late next month.

If you'd like to be more involved, email me at nfisher01@bellarmine.edu and join our facebook group "TOMS Bellarmine University Campus Club."
