Bellarmine's newest state-of-the-art Mac Lab is up and running, fully operational and ready for use. Several digital art classes, such as Advanced Photography and Color Imaging, already utilize the space twice a week.

The layout is simple; two rows of two border the walls and run down the center of the room, making the most of a relatively small space.

Advanced Photo student, Nick Flood, loves the addition of another Mac Lab. "We really needed the extra computers," he said. "The other Mac Lab was always overcrowded or busy with a class. The only time I could work on my projects last semester was late at night."

Graphic design and digital medium students on campus need access to expensive editing software, such as Adobe's Photoshop, or InDesign. These programs often run for hundreds of dollars, so constant access to Bellarmine's purchased copies of the programs is essential to students who simply can't afford such costly software, especially when it is bound to become outdated within a year or two.

Craig Bischoff, a graphic design Communication major, says that he finds the Mac Lab in the Communication wing to be sufficient. "I usually get my projects done during class, and don't mind going later in the evening if I have to."

Danielle Adkins, a sophomore at Bellarmine, pointed out that the newer Mac Lab is better equipped. "I like [the new Mac Lab] better because it has Final Cut Pro, and the Mac Lab in the Comm wing only has Final Cut Express."

The Mac Lab's neighbor is also a plus for the new computer lab: it sits across the way from the Help Desk. If anyone has any computer-related issues, they can simply walk over to the Help Desk, instead of frantically searching around for a fellow student who might have a clue as to what's going on. The Mac Lab is located on Level B of the library.

One of the big perks of the Mac Lab is its relative obscurity, at least for now.

If you haven't seen the new Mac lab yet, you should definitely check it out. With new machines, the latest software, and the quiet that comes with working in a library, you're sure to find a new favorite place to work on your next digital assignment. And if you're wondering, fear not; the Macs are also fully equipped with Microsoft Office.
