Six delegates from Bellarmine are being sent the 2010 Kentucky Association of Residence Halls (KARH) conference. The conference will be held at Thomas More College in northern Kentucky from February 5-7.
The Kentucky Association of Residence Halls consists of members of Residence Hall Associations (RHA) throughout Kentucky colleges and universities. This year's participants include Northern Kentucky University (NKU), Spalding, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), Morehead, the University of Kentucky (UK) and the University of Louisville (U of L).
Representatives from Bellarmine include RHA President Stephanie House, as well as Sarah Hoffeditz, Christine Elder, and Caitlin Clark, the Hall Council Chairs from Siena, Petrik and Anniversary. Also attending will be Siena Hall Council officers Kirby Grein and Kandace Ford.
Entertainment, activities, and contests at the conference are all based on a theme, which changes every year. According to Thomas More's website, "Ye Olde KARH Conference 2010" will include a "best steed" competition for the best decorated van, an "Excalibur" spirit stick and a Banquet, complete with medieval themed food and entertainment.
The medieval theme will be present in all aspects of the conference, and will influence all activities, such as the roll call. The roll call allows each delegation to introduce itself and provides an opportunity for a fun opening to KARH. The skits themselves must fit into the theme of the event and include the names of all participating schools.
Traveling with the delegation will be Petrik Hall Director Jon Aydt. Aydt will serve as the advisor, or "noble." Advisors help their delegations, or "lords and ladies" to plan the roll call, prepare presentations and accompany the delegations to the events.
Aydt says "[o]ur roll call is being kept under wraps for the most part, but I can tell you that in the end the Bellarmine Knight shall rule the land."
