Women's basketball bounces back from tough loss to earn split
Defeat UIS by 71-61 count to improve record to 12-9 overall

Bellarmine's women's basketball team bounced back from a crushing 105-93 defeat at the hands of Quincy of pick up a big 71-61 road victory over the University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
On Thursday, the Knights put up 93 points against 14-5 Quincy, but were unable to stop the Hawks' offensive attack.
Both teams shot extremely well from the floor, as Bellarmine knocked down 51 percent of their shots, while Quincy nailed 52 percent.
Brittany Edelen established a new career-high in points, leading all scorers with 28 points. Kylie Brady, in her second game back from a knee injury scored 19 points, as did Jalissa Chatlos.
But the hot shooting didn't carry over early on Saurday as the Knights struggled from the floor inside the three-point line in the first half of Saturday's contest, making only six two-pointers; however, Bellarmine drained six of 14 three-point attemps in the first half, helping them jump out to a 37-30 halftime lead.
The Knights started to hit some shots in the second half, going 12-28 from the floor, and were able to put the game away early, jumping out to a 21-point lead over the 2-18 (0-13 Great Lakes Valley Conference) Prarie Stars at the nine-minute mark of the second half.
Edelen once again paced the Knights, scoring a game-high 21 points. Allison Matheis had a very nice all-around game for Bellarmine, scoring 17 points, grabbing a game-high seven rebounds, and dishing out a game-high seven assists while only turning the ball over once.
With the split, the Knights now hold a 12-9 record (5-9 GLVC). They will look to improve upon that record as they return home for a Thursday-Saturday homestand. On Thursday, the women take on Missouri University of Science and Technology at 5:45 PM, and then face Maryville University on Saturday. Tip-time for Saturday's contest is 1:00 PM.
